So am I an Introvert?
SO AM I AM INTROVERT? (OR JUST KINDA SHY)
On the subject of “Introverts”—I use this term rather loosely to be honest. In researching the term, I found that there were some surprises on the definition of “introvert”. I wanted to focus this book on business advice for introverted business people and I needed to make sure that I truly knew what that meant.
Long story short, there still is no definitive answer for me to the question of “What is an introvert?” at least beyond the obvious extremes. That is not to say that it is not well defined, on the contrary—but there are numerous interpretations of the definitions, and tests that you can take to determine “what” you are—if that is of any interest for you. I have come to the conclusion that multiple interpretations is a good thing. There are those of us who are definitely, and those who are definitely not introverts. Then there are the millions in the center. Are some of those people introverts, or just “introverted”?
There are a lot of theories and research on introversion, introverts and the introverted, and these questions are both beyond my capabilities for understanding, and most likely beyond your true interest level on the subject. It is not my intention to tell the reader that they are “introverted” or “extroverted”, or diagnose them, or determine their level of introversion in any way. It is my hope that you, the reader already have a basic understanding of the way that you function in the world around you, and embrace that which makes you unique.
There are varying degrees of “introverts”, and we each react more or less introverted in different situations. This book will assist you in determining your style, acknowledging your strength and building your future through networking, business sense, and community involvement.
I have found that being an introvert (even a shy, introvert with stage fright and a bit of social anxiety) is truly a gift. While I may know many people in my community and beyond, I still shy away from group situations—but that is okay. True liberation came me when I realized that there isn’t anything wrong with this, or me. What this means is that the people that I bring into my life are VERY special, thoughtful, friendly, interesting, giving, intelligent, patient and profoundly wonderful. I bring them into my inner circle because they are good people who support me and my business. They will be honest with me, and wish to see me succeed. They each bring me something unique, and I am able to give them something unique in turn.
I offer you this advice. Seek out the very special, thoughtful, friendly, interesting, giving, intelligent, patient and profoundly wonderful people. Bring them into your inner circle. Doing this will be a great success in an of itself—and it will bring with it the rewards you seek.
